May I ask a question, possibly foolish, but...If we detect planets by the decrease in light from their sun as they cross their sun, doesn't this method prevent us from detecting planets not on our line of sight plane? Our we possibly unaware of a large percentage of planets?
What makes transiting planets so important is that we can learn more about the planet than we can via other detection methods. (i.e. orbit, physical properties, atmospheric composition & structure) https://lco.global/spacebook/transit-method/ … 2/
