What about secondary mirror?

The secondary mirror is also gold coated. The thickness of the coating is the same as on the primary segments (thinner than a human hair).pic.twitter.com/ILlexpSPXY

~2.4 cc of gold. Never ceases to amaze me how thin you can spread that stuff.

I am so looking forward to the success of this telescope unfurled! I can just imagine how nervous the Webb team is until it’s mission accomplished! All the steps that have to go perfectly is mind boggling. Good luck and great job in advance!

Oh come on. For that much cheddar the thing should be completely made out of platinum. How much did it cost for that fact.?

The telescope structure is actually made from carbon fiber composites. It is extremely light and engineered to be steady down to 32 nanometers (1/10,000 the diameter of a human hair) at temps colder than -400F. The mirrors are beryllium. (Very light yet very strong.)
