What are the chances a chunk of space debris or rock will smack into that beautiful instrument? Has@that ever happened?

We'll be out at the second Lagrange point and not in low Earth orbit. Much less debris there. The odds of something big hitting us are very very small. We expect micrometeoroid impacts and those are no problem for the mirror.
