"The service and SpaceX also disagreed about whether the Space Shuttle was a good analogy to the new vehicle." I'd have been all over that! There is no yes or no answer, by the way. Would love to know the specifics of the analogy that was made to chime in.

PS: The answer is mostly no. Starship is nothing like the Shuttle, for (and I love shuttle) all the right reasons.

Probably extra incentive for Musk and SpaceX to prove them wrong... but 5 years... in SpaceX terms, that's quite a long timeframe :)

I suspect Musk is getting tired of continually having to "prove them wrong" while competitors are given the benefit of the doubt or better terms. Boeing w Starliner, for example. Starship will likely succeed & the USAF will have given development funds to everyone but SpaceX.

and what about SLS?

What about SLS? Was there talk that the USAF was gonna use this rocket to launch military payloads?

In defense of the USAF, they had never dealt with an aerospace company the likes of SpaceX...really no one had. Everyone underestimated them. If the evaluation was made today I’d wager it would be a lot more optimistic of SpaceX’s chances.

They also have to use some common sense. You would never fly a multi-billion dollar satellite on an unproven vehicle.

Everyone doubts SpaceX and then we all know what happens next...

Everything is delayed 5-10 years but eventually happens? FH 7 years, crew dragon 5 years, a dozen projects cancelled because they were not feasible. Starship not being ready in 5 years is totally a real concern. As for Boca Chica compared to a real rocket factory, lmao
