Couldn't Vulcan launch Clipper as well?

Might even be a better option with their upper stages.

But none of this will get past the Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee.

-
Was just mentioning that. Politically they won't let SLS go without.

One thing that might keep SLS safe: no crew vehicle that can go to the moon other than Orion on SLS, until Starship.
-
Crew Dragon is quite close. It has the Delta-V to get there or get back, just not both. If there was interest (funding) human rating Falcon Heavy and either upgrading Dragon or using a multilaunch dual Dragon crew transit could do the job.

@SciGuySpace reported last December that Falcon Heavy with a Star 48 kick stage was under consideration.https://arstechnica.com/science/2018/12/will-the-europa-missions-be-iced-after-congressmans-defeat-not-right-now/ … -
I always got the sense that some Europa Clipper design decisions were made to favour SLS in return for political support.

I think this discussion isn’t done yet. It’s gonna be interesting to see the pro SLS members of Congress reactions over the course of the budget planning process. I could see some more ultimatums coming from that group.
-
Hell, when all is said and done, the budget may include another SLS Mobile launcher and a version Block 3 for the hell of it, if it’s anything like how things normally work out.
