I've asked this on Yt but unfortunately I wasn't chosen. If the parachutes fail, can the landing still occur successfully? Can the rover slow down sufficiently and still land without damage and if so, how will this happen?
The parachutes dramatically reduce our spacecraft velocity when we enter the atmosphere and are crucial to landing. The Descent Stage rockets cannot alone slow us down to a safe landing velocity. #CountdownToMars
