to what degree does radiation damage the data on the rover, how is this corrected?
Spacecraft use specialized "radiation-hardened" computers which use a variety of techniques to protect against radiation - checksums, duplication of computations, passive shielding, etc.

How does passive shielding work?

I assume it's probably similar to how you have to wear a lead vest when getting an x-ray at the dentist (although I assume it's much lighter).

Thank you! I assume the chip with everyone's name on it is not radiation-hardened or shielded. How would this affect the integrity of all of the data (all the names) on the chip?

I just want to know how garbled I should expect my name on that chip to be when I make my way to the Red Planet and stumble across that rover.
