#SeeingTheSeas You’ve reported 5.5 years but what is the true estimate of the length of the satellite’s lifetime and what is the de-orbit plan or activity in place for end of lifetime?
While its prime mission is 5.5 years, we always hope our satellites will provide our scientists with as much data as possible for as long as possible. @NASA’s Terra satellite, for example, had a prime mission of 6 years but continued its mission for 20+ years.

Previous satellites in this series also had similar lifetime requirements. Jason-1, launched in 2001, and Jason-2, launched in 2008, both operated for more than 11 years.
