DuAxel is a prototype robot designed to explore places where rovers cannot – the sides of craters and near-vertical cliffs. It’s created by tethering a pair of two-wheeled vehicles. The two wheel vehicle going downslope has high risk of getting stuck on return: the pipe holding the tether rope will hang up in dirt or a rock. Consider a third wheel on the pipe to keep it moving over obstacles on the return.

third wheel can be much smaller than the 2 main drive wheels, and requires no power.
