How this craters are formed?

These craters formed from high-speed impacts of meteroids into the surface of Mars. They're traveling so fast, it's like an explosion that throws rocks and soil out to form a crater and a blast zone around it.

Are the data from these used to help determine where to send future landers?

It's important for future exploration to know how many dangerous meteoroids are impacting Mars so we know how much of a threat impacts pose to rovers and eventually, humans. These data will help us understand that hazard as we design future missions. 1/2

No, the large image is from the context camera and the inset was from a follow-up observation by
