They won't come home, but 2020 does have the possibility of sending a return sample from the Martian surface back to Earth!
That's right. Mars is the rover's forever home, but it will work to cache samples for return to Earth by a future mission.

I remember seeing some work for sample return vehicle stuff when I was at Marshall about 2 years ago, though that was primarily propulsion related. Are concepts/proposals still being developed for those future sample return missions?
