The art & design department just goes above and beyond. I was blown away by all the space- & data- related displays! Right by the cool signs was a @MarsCuriosity track in the sidewalk. Notice anything? Maybe a break in the tread pattern? Why, yes, that is "JPL" in morse code. Bc NASA wouldn't let them write "JPL" all over Mars. And then they didn't catch it until the rover was on Mars 3/npic.twitter.com/HAA9N3o210

Next was a super cool artsy building that had a mock version of @MarsCuriosity, an LED sculpture that showed in real-time when & how much data was downloaded from NASA's missions, a stairwell piece showing @CassiniSaturn's final orbits & lots more. Then, the lucky peanuts. Yes you read that right. NASA had 6 unsuccessful Moon landings w the Ranger missions. Ranger 7 was *exactly* the same as Ranger 6, but there were peanuts! Apparently that made all the difference. Now, all major events at JPL include peanut-passing! 5/npic.twitter.com/RTLgsluFLY

AND THEN MISSION CONTROL!!! This is the room I've seen over & over through all of the mission landings and endings I've watched, from the @MarsCuriosity landing to the @CassiniSaturn mission end. Then another testing room. In particular, this is the room they use to solve problems with the landers and rovers on Mars. The testing room was essentially a giant fishbowl -- people on tours look through glass windows at the engineers working down below. So the engineers have a little bit of fun [image refers to the engineering copy of Curiosity being covered when not in use] 8/npic.twitter.com/Yure1i1tJ9

THEN OMGOMGOMG I SAW #MARS2020!!!! THAT ROBOT WILL BE ON MARS NEXT YEAR. It's not boxed up yet!! But will be *very* soon to ship to FL & complete testing/prep for launch this summer! They were setting up to test inserting/attaching the nuclear power source. But they won't use the real source until just before launch (to avoid blowing up the lab if anything goes wrong...) so they'll practice the procedure as much as they can before the real deal! 10/npic.twitter.com/WcsR6skdR1
