If the mars rover is going to bites the mars dust why they have to wear masks and cover all budy parts, the rover is supposed to be completely protected and all sensitive instruments are fully enclosed also it's supposed to be tested on some mars locations on earth
So, a couple things to consider: We don't want to get dust inside the electronics while we're still working on them, and we abide by Planetary Protection policy.
