Jeez! That rocket has some get-up-and-go! InSight will be the first interplanetary launch from the West coast, right? Was it built to more difficult vibe-tests than a normal orbital mission? Or is it mostly all the same?

Yes, this is the 1st launch to ANY other planet from West Coast. All the usual pre-checks and tests for this launch as other missions. A whole new region of the country will get to see the launch. On a clear day, the launch may be visible from Santa Maria to San Diego, Calif.

Why is this the first interplanetary launch from the west coast? What has prevented this in the past? And what compelled NASA to choose to launch InSight from the west coast? I'll be there on the 5th, with
#NASASocial! Can't wait to watch the launch. - End of conversation
