After making good progress in recent weeks, another day of digging on #Mars leads to the mole backing out by a couple of centimeters. My team keeps pushing forward and is exploring several options.pic.twitter.com/pe2eopDANi

Is anyone else just blown away by what we’re seeing? Another planet and the pictures are incredibly clear. I’ll never not be impressed with this. If you’ve worked on this, you’re amazing.

Same here! Its amazing to me that we get to see this in our lifetime! I was literally speechless when they released the sound of the Martian wind vibrating the solar panels! Awesome, but a little eerie to hear sounds from another planet!

I think it’s time to just start digging with the scoop.

Scoop isn't designed for that kind of work. It would probably snap

I'm certain that you have 1000 x thought of everything I can think of (but that's never stopped me)....dig as deep of a hole as possible w/ scoop and then start the probe after filling the hole above it? Continue to press from above with scoop. Maybe soil weight will act as tamp

(additionally) build as big of a pile on top of the buried probe as possible, using the scoop
