        Extra capability adds mass, cost, and complexity, all of which were very limited resources. At some point we stop designing and fly with known and accepted risks and then do the best we can with what Mars throws at us.

        How did NASA design that heat probe that cannot be retractable in case it hit a rock ?!?! Seriously !! Shame on NASA for not thinking about worst case scenario if it got stuck or hit a rock.
