Artist's rendering of contrasting skies that might be found on planets beyond our solar system. Many of the exoplanets around the size of our system's Neptune have high cloud cover, shown at left, blocking our instruments from detecting deeper molecules. But a planet called HAT-P-11b was found to have a clear upper atmosphere, right, allowing detection of water molecules.
