Spitzer is well past its original 2.5 year prime mission. In 2016, NASA made a decision to close out the Spitzer mission in 2018. When Webb's launch was postponed, Spitzer was granted an extension to continue operations until this year.

Decommission means it will be guided to burn in the atmosphere? Could it push some abandoned garbage on it's way? Like old satellites?

No. It will remain in safe mode, trailing behind Earth and millions of miles away in orbit around the Sun.

Thank you Spitzer for great imaging of our cosmos. Just hoping they get a successful launch date of 2022 for the James Webb Telescope. First images will take a few extra years but I hope I am alive to see them.
