This summer, record high temperatures and wildfires have spread throughout Siberia. Using the VIIRS instrument, the @NOAA/@NASA Suomi-NPP satellite can see smoke stretching from Siberia across the Bering Strait into Canada and Alaska.

Wildfires in Siberia are again bringing haze to Southcentral Alaska, with smoke reaching as far as Tok and Copper River Valley. 129 active wildfires as of July 29. They’re burning more than 160,000 acres.
