California skies are shrouded in smoke as the #CampFire continues to rage. The fire has been fueled by dry conditions & Santa Ana winds. Our @NASAEarth satellite captured this image on Nov. 14—actively burning fires are shown as red points. https://go.nasa.gov/2qN9NNJ pic.twitter.com/F4IdCYd4qY

Skies above California are far from sunny these days as the smoke from California fires, especially the Camp Fire, shrouds the state. The Camp Fire which began eight days ago is still an inferno having burned 140,000 acres (218 sq. miles) and is only 40 percent contained.

Did it start from a campfire? Is that the reason for it’s name?

The name refers to where it started, not how it started.

Anyone would estimate the global warming effect of the forest burning compared to that of a steel factory or cars?

Wonder if we can fly planes by with air filters in them to help filter the smoke and clean the air. And of course help put the fires out.

@CAL_FIRE cannot fly the planes with fire retardant without visual access.

Doubt it was fueled by Santa Ana winds this far North and now no wind it by far contributing to smoke in the Valley

There are hot winds in Northern Cal that come from the east. In most parts of the Sierra they are referred to as the Mono winds but Paradise is northwest of the Sierra.

Santa Ana winds are a Southern California phenomenon. The Camp Fire is in Northern California.
