This is horrible! Why did no one come forward before now to ask about the pets? Neighbours, friends, relatives? Where is the 2nd cat? If the animals were inside the house, then the police must have found them, or did they not go inside at all? What sort of investigation is this?
We can now add incompetence, negligence & cruelty to this fiasco. One of the cats could have caught a mouse or a rat that had been poisoned and the sickness could have come from there.!!

The report's pretty clear that they died of starvation/dehydration. It's all very odd, as the police would clearly have searched the house, and there's the earlier report of the pets being taken away for testing.
