OK I cannot believe how seriously so many people are taking this. I’m on #TeamTwoSpace (of course), but still.

So this is such a long-standing topic. Who knew? https://xkcd.com/1285/ Via

Whoa. I was just joking around about the issue of two spaces after a period versus (the clearly inferior practice of) one space after a period. But this is serious business,

That wins the internet today. I love both those movies.

My challenge to the two-spacers is to walk into a Barnes & Noble and see how many books you have to pick up before you find one two-spaced - but I would support a truce between the one-spacers and two-spacers if we could unite against Times New Roman.

Hilarious.

I literally re-trained myself three years ago to leave only one space and so I refuse to buy this “science” BS.
-
OMG. betrayed by my own blood. And according to
@PKanagaratnam your were taught properly in higj school too. -
Well, I was properly taught & had Mrs. MacDonald for
#USHistory & Ted Walch for English...& Doc Arnds one summer, but@katrina_PC is younger than I am. -
I remember being taught two spaces in grades 2/3/4... I don't even remember when I switched to single space. I personally find one space looks more professional. Tight and efficient. Sentences should be short and crisp. Two spaces may make more sense if your sentences are long.

If you were an authentic two-spacer you would be using them in twitter, as well. Sorry to say, but you are a

This is science we are talking about ! Are partial vindications available ? Are they valid ? Are they good for one's reputation ?

As I like to tell the single-space horde when they attack, using two spaces after each period (of course): "We are everywhere. We are legion. We will resist you. We will win." You might also like: http://web.archive.org/web/20160107040342/http://www.heracliteanriver.com/?p=324 …

(The only problem with that quote is that it doesn't afford me the opportunity to also use the Oxford comma.)
-
I should make a .gif of it, which of course is pronounced with a hard G.
-
Don't you mean "wronj"?
-
The man that invented the "jif" is telling the world how to pronounce, but go ahead and continue being wrong.
-
While you're at it, pick another acronym that has been converted to a "word", lets say NASA. Pronounce the two "A's" in NASA as they would in their root words. English is a funny language.
-
I'm not interested in the root word. Even if I didn't know what the acronym was for, it'd be a gif, not a jif. Lasers are lay-sers, not lah-sers or laa-sers, despite the "A" being from "amplified". Folks simply saw what the acronym spelled and pronounced accordingly, like gif
