    Myanmar’s simultaneous protests have adapted to the hostile situation.Peaceful night strikes that include candle lighting and praying for dozens of protestors who have been killed during the junta’s violent crackdowns have started across the country.

  2. The military junta in says it wants to hold new elections, but by banning media outlets it is dismantling one of the pillars of democracy. We will continue to support media freedom and stand up for the rights of journalists.

  5. The United Nations in is calling for an immediate de-escalation of the situation in Sanchaung, Yangon, and to allow protestors prevented from returning home by security forces to so do safely.

    The current situation where young people are trapped in Sanchaung and other parts of Yangon is of grave concern. We appeal the security forces to allow these young people to leave the area and safely return to their home

    The Myanmar army coup was meant to be a conservative reset: a rebalancing of power away from Aung San Suu Kyi. Instead, the generals may have inadvertently set off a new revolutionary era, at a time of intense social and economic upheaval. Future's up for grabs.

    Scale of protests shows clearly the strength of public opinion against army rule. But for half a century that's never been in doubt. Question's alway been how to exit from army domination. Not sure we're closer to an answer; what's certain is this crisis will reshape opportunity.
