    NEW: A Tornado Watch has been issued for parts of Florida and Georgia until 9 PM EDT. A couple of tornadoes possible, hail up to marble size, and wind gusts up to 70 MPH.

    Gravity waves over Washington D.C. right now! They result from perturbations that ripple through layered air masses. Air masses are invisible usually, but they still settle based on density. When a storm system elsewhere moves a lot of air, you can generate ripples.

    Not sure if you need an umbrella today? Easy, grab your smartphone, check the weather. Problem solved. It's easy to take weather forecasts for granted, but the benefits of accurate forecasts are huge – and this is largely thanks to satellites.

    Incredible! As the saying goes “fail to prepare, then prepare to fail.”

    Was able to survey tornado damage today. Success story: the person that lived here said they cleared their closet 4 days ago when they saw the forecast. Got the warning and the family went into the interior room. The outside rooms of the house were all gone when it was over.
