Great new essay by about sex, shame, #HIV & #monkeypox. "This Look-Over-There-ism is a distraction, maybe even a deflection. We can’t seem to accept that we, gay men, are hosting a party we didn’t plan."

What is Driving the Latest #Monkeypox Messaging Battle? Fixating on rare, non-gay cases is a distraction, and maybe a deflection. (It's also an STI. Deal with it.) marksking.com/my-fabulous-di @BiomedSelfSoc @thrasherxy

Never let it be said that the craven Michael Weinstein of won't throw #gay community under the bus to advance his anti-science views on PreP, sexuality, or anything else his flaccid mind believes stands in the way of world #HIV healthcare profiteering.

Michael Weinstein’s long-standing ego-driven anti-scientific moral crusade against sex has nothing to do with the HIV or the MPX outbreaks losangelesblade.com/2022/08/29/mon

Good afternoon, and welcome to the CBSS roundtable on “Is #monkeypox an #STI?” I’m @JamieDWebb, a PhD researcher at CBSS, and I’ll be live-tweeting this event.

A "#gay #HIV negative RN" msgd me about "the hatred I receive from the HIV community." I suggested he not make sweeping remarks about a group of people, and how proud I am to work alongside HIV negative allies. He blocked me.

The first speaker, Dr. Michael Brady, says his opinion of "Is #monkeypox an STI?" ranges from "possibly" to "probably," and gives epi reasoning. But it is still complicated, and an issue fraught with sexual politics, esp among the #gay intelligentcia. Follow this thread for more.

The just can't decide if it's worth mentioning on their #monkeypox page that #gay, Bisexual, and other men who have sex with men are at risk (98% of cases). (It is.) June 1: gay/bi/msm mentioned August 11: language removed August 18: (some) language back Please lead.

And as a 37 year #HIV survivor, the "gay agenda" (of simply trying to fucking stay alive) has been a treacherous road. Without help from my govt, church or society at large, I learned the meaning of being truly forlorn. #LGBTQIA folks learn to fend for ourselves. If we're lucky.

The gay agenda is keeping gay people alive. That’s our big scary plan. Staying alive.

Fight fear and misinformation with facts. #Monkeypox continues to primarily affect #gay/msm (98%). Spreading in the air/on surfaces is extremely rare. Cases among women and children are also rare. Let's keep sharing accurate, candid info with our fellow gay/msm at risk.

#Monkeypox misinformation is spreading faster than the virus, spawning an epidemic of largely unfounded anxiety, I report for @NBCNews. ⭐️Myth: The virus transmits readily & often via the air and surfaces ⭐️Truth: Sex between men drives this outbreak nbcnews.com/health/health-

Anyway, I'm going to keep lifting up the sex lives of every human, and try to be thoughtful and nuanced without demonizing people, or their sex lives, or even other writers who disagree. I agree with one thing: we're turning on each other at the worst possible time.

I wrote "Your Mother Liked It Bareback." I'm hardly a puritan. So I reject the notion that the MPX discussion is between the same sex positive/negative camps as the PrEP (or the U=U) skirmishes. That's just overly simplistic, even if it whips up into a frenzy.

I was thrilled for "the sluts" who could fuck without fear once PrEP appeared. I am also a poz gay man thrilled that #UequalsU means I can have condomless sex without putting my sex partner at risk. MPX is different because, guess what, these viral outbreaks are different.

Where does this angry diatribe leave me, a sex-positive poz undetectable PrEP warrior, who has encouraged MSM to dial it back short-term until a monkeypox vaccine is more widely available? Why make this a "fight" with winners and losers? I'm confused by all this hostility.
Quote Tweet
I think what's happening now with this intracommunity fight over shaming people into less sex is because WE JUST HAD THIS FIGHT around PrEP and the sluts won, pissing a lot of people off. Larry Kramer hated PrEP. He came around... 1/22

This moving WashPo editorial from is a love letter to the resilience and strength of gay men. Asking gay/MSM to mitigate our risk of monkeypox through strategies like fewer sex partners and venues is a communal act of self-love, too.

If due to the paywall you can't read my @WashingtonPost oped in which I argue that gay men should change their sexual behavior to mitigate the risk of #monkeypox, here is the full text, in two tweets. 1/2 washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/
