19) These problems w/ trusted setup are expecially painful because of the "imperfectly binding" choice. An inflation attack couldn't be detected & managed like it could in a clear-text amounts scenario, like Btc. Sure, they'll "do it better the next time": w/ even more spotlight.

SNARKs are pretty great, but I don't like the toxic waste problem. But did you mean SNARKs vs. newer crypto tech? Or something else? As for default-on privacy, yes of course we need that!

Yeah, is figuring out newer tech (STARKs, Bulletproofs etc.) life-and-death for Zcash? To what extent do you think the system could be successful with SNARKs alone? What do you think will come first, default-on privacy, or a move from SNARKs to newer tech?

Eh, I don't know. We already have a plan in motion for default-on privacy: https://blog.z.cash/roadmap-update-2017-12/ … But when exactly it will come to end-users depends on third-party wallet and service providers.
