Yeah what everyone else said, read this whole thread. Not for the CSW stuff (it's a travesty he still gets attention) but for the rest.https://twitter.com/VitalikButerin/status/981069924255739904 …

Haven't read enough history to have a view on that one, but I also think its importance is overrated. A lot of what's happening is just new.

This is why “ETH will be SoV” thesis is unlikely. Saying that ETH is a better SoV than Bitcoin is like saying Laptops are a better SoV than Gold.

Why would you say that? Too simplistic. Technologically and perception-wise, ETH is similar enough to BTC to act as a SOV. Where they differ is only economically in that ETH is a utility token (meaning it has fundamental utility that BTC does not).

ETH will have natural lock-up mechanisms (PoS, CDPs and other collateralized loans, ENS, hodling/speculation) and will function more efficiently as an MOE within its ecosystem. I have trouble seeing BTC as a pure SOV. Why LN then? Can BTC be an everyday MOE and a defl. SOV?

MOE in and of itself is irrelevant to value accrual. Monetary premium is what matters for SoVs. BTC superior security, decentralization, censorship-resistance, immutability and untouchable monetary policy is what makes it a good SoV.

It can't even handle the throughput needed to be a global SOV. What happens when fees are $50+? SOV 4 rich only? How superior are those features? Somewhat? Barely? You can argue ETH is more decentralized. Just as immutable. Etc. It's a war of perception and marketing only.
