0/ Just because an asset is used by millions of people doesn't mean it'll accrue value over time. USD is a great example. Conversely, a cryptoasset must be a good store of value (SoV) to achieve and sustain a high market cap. But what makes a good SoV?

Utility can be something abstract like “hedge against catastrophic failure of banking system” or “digital collectible”. Hard to quantify really.
-
Maybe another way to think about this is that the utility of a SOV is that it is a SOV. Any additional utility is nice but secondary.
-
This guy gets it. Being a strong disinflationary SoV *is* the utility.

Can you write up on ZEC? I like it but I’m probably less bullish than you are due to (lack of) decentralization, which affects credibility of monetary policy.

One aspect of Zcash that I don’t think is appreciated enough is its temporary bridge-like nature. It has clearly created a strategy that begins in a centralized stage because that’s the only way to get the difficult research off the ground, but which then transitions out of that.
