I believe that Bitcoin is clever and artful fashion. Like all clever and artful fashion, it's worth money, maybe a lot of money depending on how many people self-identify w/that fashion statement. You think I'm being snarky when I say this, but I'm not. Bitcoin is good art! (1/3)https://twitter.com/EconomPic/status/1006208603433283584 …

It seems like you had nearly identical thoughts in early 2015 when the price was < $500. Not saying you’re wrong (I really don’t know), but what would change your mind if not the price moving materially higher / the increased ownership over time? http://www.epsilontheory.com/the-effete-rebellion-of-bitcoin/ … pic.twitter.com/dAzHKiJoM0

But it makes me SO ANGRY when the raccoons that infest financial services tout Bitcoin as a "store of value" or a “diversifying investment”, because it’s NOT. Institutional investors know this. Civilians don’t. That’s why Bitcoin is a greater-fool, retail game. (2/3)

So there’s nothing about the PRICE of Bitcoin that will change my mind. It’s the WHY of Bitcoin that I care about. When Bitcoin is sold and promoted for what it is – good fashion – rather than what it isn’t – good investment – then I will be Bitcoin’s biggest booster. (3/3)

Your criticism is fair. Do you think the following properties are misrepresentations of Bitcoin as well? 1) A bearer asset that is hard to censor/seize 2) A shot at a money free from meddling of gov+central banks

Because I agree that until we reach a critical level of adoption for either of those use cases, Bitcoin *is* indeed a fashion, or a collectible, and should be advertised as such. But it *could* become more, and then its value wouldn't be zero-sum anymore.

If you were the head of marketing of Bitcoin (I know there is no such thing), what would you say about it?

Bitcoin is digital jewelry with the properties of the hardest money ever invented. Money is a social technology, so it will require some time for social, cognitive buy-in.

The issue is that a large number of people who buy and/or hodl, do not understand the implications of what they own. The vast majority of people do not know what "hard money" is - especially in wealthy nations. This will take time.

The question is also, outside a crisis, how do we get people to study economic history/world history? Very few people are pondering the question of "what is money?"

You don't. If not enough people feel an important pain that only Bitcoin can ease, then it's simply gonna fail.

@hasufl Do you think Bitcoin can succeed without any kind of currency crises, inflationary recessions or major credit defaults happening?

I think we need to clarify between developed and emerging markets. Currency crises happen frequently in emerging markets. It may take only one successful implementation of Bitcoin in one of these markets to increase uptake in others.

Not succeed in the way that it becomes global money, presumably. Bitcoin's decentralization is very costly. If it's just a "money of the internet" for example, centralized solutions will remain cheaper and faster.
