That's why the @decredproject devs are so awesome. Data encryption, Unix kernel code and btcsuite (the #golang Bitcoin client used by @lightning and many others) are just some of the things they've been working on. Lots of development activity as well.https://github.com/decred

I had Bitcoin, Zcash and Decred in mind when I wrote that

Is that a positive or negative indicator? (or does that depend on short/long-term performance?)
-
I consider it a positive indicator. Would you disagree?
-
I dunno; if I had infinite time I’d try to measure proportion for top-twenty coins and run a regression. If I had to guess... I’d guess no statistical significance.
-
Good point. At this point in time, it should be considered a positive indicator. In 100 years, it may not be. Time is the most fascinating concept

When the guy who revolutionized audio codecs for latency in VOIP, the guy who created BitTorrent, and a main developer of the fucking Linux kernel are all working on the same thing... "no statistical significance" LMAO
-
The guy who created BitTorrent is working on his own cryptocurrency because he thinks bitcoin is too buggy.
-
That seems to be the case, but the important part is it seems like he's developing outward from first principles, which you can tell by his timeline and pedigree. He recognizes btc is the only thing worth even trying to improve upon.
-
Well he thinks bitcoin was influenced by BitTorrent. Lol. Anyway, everything is influenced by something else. It’s the ways things grow and evolve.

-
I mean, it very clearly was, even if more by zeitgeist/proof of concept than actual code. I'm trying to add to the conversation in the OP. Bottom line is if these kinds of people were actually working on things like ETH, it wouldn't be crickets when people ask: like who?
-
My opinion is that the OGs took it took it to a place, that nobody else could have. But once the fundamentals are established, others can & will roll with it in other ways. Humans black & white thinking, in a world that is shades of gray, is probably our greatest failing.
-
I wish proof of time and space, sharding, interdimensional fate tarantulas, etc, were all possible. But in "crypto" everything is bullshit until proven otherwise. Scientific method. Prove your hypothesis, preferably before raising billions of dollars. Alternative is madness.
-
I’m a big believer in the scientific method & use it to guide my life. But now I’m agnostic instead of atheist. Just because something can’t meet scientific rigor today, doesn’t mean it won’t tomorrow. We need innovators, otherwise, we’d still be following science from yesterday.

My favorite fundamental indicator in a cryptocurrency is "total number of podcasts devoted exclusively to talking about it."

Unfortunately there are not that many to go around or others that share their view points these days...

It's only a matter of a short amount of time before this only means that a given project is filled w/ old people and either outright culturally rejects or at least doesn't appeal to any fresh dev blood.

Agreed, and I can already think of several for BTC. Is there an easy way to get list of active devs for each project?

How do you quantify this?

(I wholeheartedly agree w/ you)
