I don't think that an objective rubric can be used in these sorts of classes; there are people that are just naturally better at it than others. With every new freshman class you'll have people that have trained their ears for years with people that have never in their life.

The same goes for theory. Granted, TCU does not have a "test-in" process when auditioning, which is strange considering other schools (like SMU) have it.
I've been pushing for adding some sort of test to the audition process, especially since this year we have the highest percentage of students in remedial theory (enough to fill 2 sections).
