I relate to this a lot. This is why representation is essential - for people to feel they can have the same experiences as others even when it feels like the world is against them.

As a queer teenager in the 00’s I had no idea gay people fell in love. I knew from tv and media that they slept together and presented talk shows but I had never seen gay relationships. I think today things are vastly improved but the power of the way we depict people is HUGE!

First time I do organise out of house digitisation and it was challenging to say the least: 1. The Queen turns up so I have to cancel the morning session. 2. I thought the cab was outside later but turns out it wasn't and the 5 people I've asked to help

Retweeting my own tweet a) to stress the point! And b) b/c perfectionism and doing things "the proper way" is a big barrier for visitor studies profs to overcome. Some of my biggest moments have been losing sight of the reason WHY I'm doing research #VSGConf18

V important point: We need to recognise that conducting impact research as museum professionals in a practical way (in our working lives) is very different from conducting academic impact research. We can't afford (literally!) to be idealistic - we need to be pragmatic #VSGConf18
