Check out the most recent issue! From the intro: "“Peripheries and borderlands call into question the seeming totality and power of the state as well as the myth of separate-but-equal sovereignty imposed globally after World War II.”

It's not just UC employees; in 2019 the UN claimed Blackstone was “wreaking havoc” through “aggressive evictions” that effectively pushed low and middle-income tenants from their homes. This is the literal opposite of a #Cola4All.

#AHA23 folks, I’m here in Philly presenting with some seriously brilliant colleagues on Saturday. I can’t promise my book lives up to its cover, however….

Saturday at 1:30, @MuriamDavis, Emily Marker, and I (with Josh Cole commenting) will discuss our books at #AHA23. And may I just say, if we are judging books by their covers, that these are seriously great books? @AHAhistorians @Harvard_Press @DukePress @CornellPress

Echoing but also adding appreciation for faculty comrades like her who spent incredible amounts of time thinking about big picture strategy and also delving into the legal details to write memos and FAQs and still managed to ask about my kitty’s upset tummy 😻).

UCSC's graduate student labor organizers are amazing - strategic, thoughtful, democratic, and committed to the long term struggle of transforming public higher education to meet the needs of all students and workers. Solidarity forever. twitter.com/payusmoreucsc/…

I’ve learned an immense amount from the striking grad workers and my faculty comrades over the last six weeks. Looking forward to continuing to build power across the unions in the UCs and beyond.

UCSC organizers on the ratified agreement that ends the strike. Only 20% of rank and file at SC voted for the contract (35% at UCSB; 27% at Merced). The struggle continues.

We must celebrate the level and depth of rank and file engagement throughout this contract fight and strike, which has exceeded any mobilization in the history of our union local.

I've got a new paper out with Marcel Paret in @DuBoisReview on the origins of the concept of 𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗺 – above all, how it traveled back and forth across the Atlantic between South Africa and the US in two waves: the 1970s and 80s and again post-2008 twitter.com/DuBoisReview/s…

How do Zotero folks take reading notes? I finally shifted from Endnote to Zotero, but can't quite figure out the note function. I like being able to see what I have notes on, but the child/standalone notes still require me to know they are there (and expand the entry). Thanks!

I reject the logic of a “prestige top up” for UCB, UCLA, and UCSF. The creation of a two-tiered system (flagship and « others ») goes against the basic premises of higher ed. Whatever happens with the TA, faculty need to speak out against this.#FairUCNow #COLA #Relegation

Replying to @jedediahsilver and @NelsonLichtens1
Those against the differential pay are citing similar if not higher costs of living for campuses like UCSD, UCSB, UCSC. This is not a cost of living adjustment because those campuses also would see a similar increase. These are prestige top ups.

Given the historic ⚽️win for al-Andalus (I mean Morocco 🇲🇦) yesterday - and images of players posing with the Palestinian flag - you should absolutely read this article discussing the politics of Palestine on the pitch.

Doing my obligatory employee ethics training for the UCs. The video just stated: "we all want to work in an environment in which we feel valued." This is truly rich. 😂 #FairUCNow
