The best ideas are free. And if they’re not, they’ll soon find a way to be.

Reminded me of this: "In times of change, learners inherit the earth, while the learned find themselves beautifully equipped to deal with a world that no longer exists." — Eric Hoffer

So much of the best business advice seems to revolve around regulating your emotions and updating misguided intuitions. Like somehow we learned the wrong lessons just by living in the world. So we have to transform ourselves for a brave new one.

One thing I loved about Kobe was that he never took his talent for granted.

There’s something to be said for taking your time when reading. The brain can only learn so much. It might suit your long term interests better to read a little rather than a lot (unless your brain can handle it).

"My brain . . . it cannot process failure. It will not process failure. Because if I sit there and have to face myself and tell myself, ‘You’re a failure’ . . . I think that’s almost worse than death." -- Kobe Bryant, basketball legend, RIP

We might not control the opportunities we get, but we do control how we prepare. When opportunity inevitably arises, the people who intelligently prepared are in a much better position than those who didn't.

Common causes of bad decisions: 1. Assumptions from small sample sizes 2. Wanting the world to work the way we want 3. Conforming to expectations/authority/group 4. Blindness to large trends 5. Inability to determine "and then what" 6. Using incorrect maps What am I missing?

All that excites a man Loses its shine. All that pains him Loses its grip. All things arise from insignificance. And to insignificance they return.

What could a human being achieve If he was not addicted to smart phones Was not societally conditioned to socialize And did not allow any form of interference in his daily existence. Pursuing this Question Would not be a wasted life.

Deadlines can become arbitrary if they're meaningless and they lose their power. I used to mark all todos as having a deadline of TODAY. Not sure who I trying to kid. If you stop thinking of yourself as a superhuman being, it helps. Forgive yourself - and just do what you can.

You can't just be disciplined. You need mistakes to BEAT the discipline into you.

Your mindset matters more than any initial idea. Ideas inevitably change and evolve. But through the transformations, your idea will sing of death and destruction—a siren you carry on your shoulder. Your task is to endure, even as it gently rests and mocks on your shoulder.

Good ideas are missed every day because people are too busy looking for reasons to say no. Harry Potter. Seinfeld. Star Wars. Airbnb. Uber. Netflix. Even handwashing. Pro tip: try looking for reasons to say yes.

Joe Rogan is an awesome interviewer and he plays with lots of ideas, including weird and bad ones sometimes. That’s called art. It’s why he’s super popular and relatable. Those who insist no one ever say anything wrong are weird.
