battered economy: “cognitive dissonance”. My layperson’s take on cognitive dissonance: it can be psychologically very difficult to confront evidence showing one made a mistake and then admitting/correcting that mistake. And, in an age of Faux News and social media, incredibly
easy to dig up (or, be spoon fed) alternative facts negating the inconvenient evidence and appealing to our confirmation biases, preventing change. Certainly, most everyone struggles with cognitive dissonance, but Republicans, under Trump, appear particularly impacted. Good
people, good Americans and Montanans, perhaps boxed in by cognitive dissonance and a modern world that amplifies its negative impact.
