I was curious how COVID-19 has impacted violent crime in our largest metropolitan areas, hoping for real improvement. Upon cursory review, not much change. For example, in Chicago, 2020 homicides through 10 June are outpacing 2019’s. In New York City, only slight improvement
year over year. Los Angeles has seen a recent spike in homicides. We need to ensure, in the much-needed discussion and movement of anti-racism, we incorporate greatly improving PreK-12 Education, including vo-tech and trade schooling. And a major infrastructural package - and
rethinking of business incentives - that can materially boost the number of livable-wage job opportunities in urban and rural communities alike. Also, quality, equitable, low-stress, universal health care. Common-sense gun safety legislation. And, continued criminal justice
