we shouldn't pre-judge. We don't know what Weyerhaeuser's opportunity cost is. Most likely, Weyerhaeuser is looking after the best interests of its shareholders. That said, state and federal officials should be creative in firming up Montanans' public access, in
perpetuity, to this precious land. And, hopefully, preserve, if not grow, jobs as well. No stone should go unturned. Let's look at all our known levers - LWCF, MT Bond issuance, Coal Fund, Weyerhaeuser tax relief, pre-sale easement, pubic-private partnerships - and be open
to yet unknown solutions. What CANNOT happen is a back-room deal between Weyerhaeuser and Southern Pines Plantation that chokes off public
access and destroys jobs without any push-back.
