The Third Use of the Law?
-
-
The fact that the law isn’t the basis for our salvation doesn’t mean it’s irrelevant to right living, right?
-
I don’t disagree. I just think it’s interesting that when we talk about right living for Christians these days it no longer has much relation to the law as Torah. (I don’t particularly buy the moral/ritual law distinction.)
-
It might be worth noting that even within the Lutheran tradition law can have a broader referent than just the Torah - Melanchthon for example is willing to talk to some extent about 'natural law.'
-
Or possibly thinking about Torah as Logos rather than simply the written manifestation of Torah. Torah this stands behind natural law.
-
I am super skeptical about the whole concept of natural law, tbh. Why do we feel the need to replace Torah with natural law? There’s a perfectly good revealed law right there!
-
Oh natural law is bogus
