I hope in our righteous horror about the mass forced hysterectomies & sterilization happening in ICE facilities, that we listen closely to the disabled, Indigenous, Black & Immigrant women who have been reporting this same abuse for generations & were met w silence. #AbolishICE

Forced sterilization has been a continual and violent tool of white supremacist patriarchy. It has been happening to BIPOC, disabled and incarcerated women for as long as America has existed. It absolutely must end.https://www.pbs.org/independentlens/blog/unwanted-sterilization-and-eugenics-programs-in-the-united-states/ …

Also a reminder: ICE is only 17 years old. It wouldn’t need to exist even if it was 217 years old. Still, we should remember that dismantling it is not nearly the impossible charge folks want to say it is. #AbolishICE

Lastly, please do not come over her to argue against choice. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see the CLEAR difference between a person having agency over their own body and being forced to have a hysterectomy. I see your bad faith arguments from here & they’re unwelcome.

so awful that the many black & indigenous women in ICE facilities are *still* being put through this. I highly reccomend this book that summarizes this in the reproductive justice framework, from one of the founders of Sister Song (created decades ago to bring attention to this)!pic.twitter.com/REBYvDP5Yf

This was done to Puerto Rican women as well. I don’t understand why this isn’t a bigger story.

Agreed. IMO it’s because because immigrant women / WOC are the focal point.

Negative eugencis and using enslaved and immigrant women for gynecological experiments began in the 1800s and never really stopped. A number of generalizations and stereotypes carry over from those experiments and eugenics. One of Sangers main ideas was part of negative eugenics.
