The moral of the story here is not to blindly uphold deregulation as a rule of thumb. It's too simple of a reading. After all, it's precisely because of the lack of regulation of wet 'n' wild markets in China that we find ourselves in this position in the first place.

Meanwhile, China (and many researchers) is disputing the hypothesis that the wet 'n' wild market is the source of this virus at all.

The first time I saw you, I *really* liked you. 😉 The more I *hear* you, the more I really love and respect you. Keep being level headed and please keep yourself and your family safe. The country can use more voices like yours.

I would argue that "wet 'n' wild" markets in China are the result of government intervention. It has been a government controlled monopoly on traditional livestock that has forced regular farmers to raise bats and other animals.

Yeah, maybe more pressure on China on wet markets and re-evaluation of our own slaughterhouse practices in West.

And over use of anti biotics . Social distancing for livestock = give them more space .

I read that the wet markets were regulated into existence because regular bore so many food born illnesses because of old food being sold. Thus, "wet" markets were created to show how fresh the product was as its slaughtered in front of the customer.

And the reason traditional markets were so bad was due to heavy handed regulations in the production of livestock.
