Postmodernism allows for unapologetically being inconsistent. It also interprets everything through stupid lenses like "power" and "that guy has already been branded problematic."

The idea that people can have different tastes in humor is somewhat a postmodern concept though, right? And some good comedy actually does draw from the postmodern literary tradition
-
Absolutely, but the power dynamics and problematics issues supervene.

How is that whites are both "so fragile" that they emit "white tears" yet somehow manage to be powerful and constantly punching down? They make us sound like aggressive tea pots. Mine would be made of china, if that weren't cultural appropriation.

White magic.

Hahaha :)

Can I pick “Comedians have always been offensive and politically challenging and that’s why they exist,” please?
-
Absolutely!
-
I reject the either/or premise. While I believe it’s good to be consistent with your principles & avoid hypocrisy, each & every case has different circumstances & nuances. We have to see through superficial appearances and examine the particulars in each case.
-
If I agree with it, it should be allowed :)
-
Let’s use our heads and examine the specific facts in each case rather than rely on automated, prepackaged thinking.
-
Problem is people are different, so different people find different things offensive. If you have a 1000 people in the room and don't wanna offend anyone and simultaneously be funny, you might as well not say anything at all. There are no objective criteria...
-
for determining if something is offensive or not.
-
I’m not denying that. I’m rejecting Chen’s extremist and unreasonable either/or scenario, which tells people to decide between toleration or non-toleration. You can tolerate some and not others, just as long as you have good reason for your decision.

Both jokes were offensive, edgy, and IMO Both comedians are still working the club circuits. Neither has been killed, nor imprisoned. However: #1 CNN has no public duty to employ either comedian #2 you are allowed to criticise either or both comedians as you wish
-
Fully agree! But if you are more likely to come to the defense of one and not both, or think one deserves forgiveness but not both, I implore you to do some introspection
-
The two have material differences though. Kathy, arguably, belittled the atrocities of ISIS. She would have struggled to make the same joke putting Trump into a holocaust oven, but the holocaust is over by decades and people are still being beheaded by ISIS.
-
But whatever way you feel about it (I'm a Brit who adores the darkest of humour) the issue with her was strictly taste. The issue with LCK is he's a sex attacker, or whatever you want to call it. It's his interpersonal behaviour that's at the heart of his malaise, not jokes.
