The GOP will call for more militarization as a response to all of this. Some liberals will as well. It will only further entrench the white supremacist leadership that brought us here.

U.S. police are racist and get away with murder routinely. Armed racists are the problem and the solution? OK. Sorry, I've heard this song before.

I've got people telling me liberals don't support militarization. Look, I'm not here for semantics. Liberals don't call what they're asking for "militarization" and neither do Republicans for the most part. But will they demand more assemblages of cops anywhere ppl gather? YES.

Will they demand more resources for law enforcement across the board? Yes. Will that $$ be awarded to the same institutions that routinely murder Black and brown ppl? Yes. Have those agencies been hard at work on this white supremacist threat, or have they been part of it?

Hard core white supremacists have been infiltrating law enforcement for years and U.S. policing has always been base-line racist and murderous af. And wherever fascists rally, we have seen consistent evidence of cooperation and even comradery between cops and fascists.

But people are afraid, and the *easy* response to that is "more cops" (basically everywhere) and more arguments about gun control that go nowhere.

I am telling you now that the government will use the violence that Trump himself has rallied as an excuse for more militarization, more surveillance, more violations of civil liberties -- and a lot of people are going to welcome these things bc they are afraid.

I'm not guessing or being creative here. This is about having a sense of history and a sense of how these systems function in the present. I would love to be wrong. I would celebrate being wrong. But I'm not.

#BernieSanders, whom I supported as the best of the bunch of the rotten bananas, and anything to get the mad man OUT, already did call for more “investment in law enforcement.” Lost me #BernieSanders TOTALLY LOST MY SUPPORT. Bummer.

I so agree. As soon as he put his hat in the ring, I was fearing his rhetoric would get people killed. Just from what I knew from history - I could see it being repeated. Sadly, the Quebec mosque, Tree of Life, NZ realized my worst fears. And it continues.

I strongly disagree with the characterization that Trump rallied this violence, but I think you're right that this fear will be used to push for authoritarian policies like you suggested.

History repeats itself- 1917 to 1920: “The 100-year flood”. Except for the Jim Crow South, it would prove to be the harshest burst of political repression and fear-mongering in either twentieth- or twenty-first-century America, stoked by ruling class. http://www.tomdispatch.com/post/176592/tomgram%3A_adam_hochschild%2C_america%27s_real_war/#more …
