I see ppl arguing about whether Trump's camps for imprisoned migrants are "concentration camps." Y'all wouldn't mind the term "prison camps" as much if you paid attention to how horrific US prisons are.

No one wants to admit it, but the same dynamics are unfolding here. People who the system has decided have no place in our society have been devalued, dehumanized and subjected to torturous conditions that will lead to suffering, psychological damage and premature death.

I am not saying this to quell outrage. I am saying it to expand outrage. We have a framework for understanding something that must be undone. So let's work on that.

I know ppl want to make what's happening foreign & fantastical, but it's not. This is not Nazi Germany. This is not The Handmaiden's Tale. The horrific context for all of this violence is one we have lived in our entire lives. It is the violence of criminalization & incarceration
