Pinning this to my profile for the foreseeable future: the moral clarity of Harold Pinter calling US aggression against Iraq what it was - an act of state terrorism - during his acceptance speech for the Nobel Prize in Literature (2005)
Quote Tweet
When Harold Pinter won the Nobel Prize for Literature two years later in 2005 he rightfully used his acceptance speech to condemn the invasion as a “bandit act of blatant state terrorism” and called for Bush and Blair’s arrest for war crimes.

Anyone who stands up to DeSantis is courageous beyond words. Let alone stages a sit-in at his office. I wish the leadership at University of Florida showed an ounce of this courage - instead of allowing UF 2 become a politicized institution sacrificing student/faculty well-being

I’m really proud that produced 3 different films about press freedom in the last year: about the killing of journalists in Mexico, the killing of Shireen Abu Akleh and the imprisonment of Julian Assange. More details below:

Speaker McCarthy wants to rewrite history but the apartheid state of Israel was born out of violence and the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. 75 years later, the Nakba continues to this day.

The United States and Israel share a special relationship: we are the only two countries in history that were conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that we are all equal. I know the best days for Israel—and our unbreakable bond—are ahead of us. 🇺🇸🇮🇱

And a reminder that Israel is holding over 1000 prisoners under administrative detention. This is an apartheid tactic of arresting people without any charges or trial.

Heartbreaking news: Khader Adnan has died in Israeli prison after 87 days of being on hunger strike. This was the 10th time Israel arrested him, placing him under administrative detention. They never filed any charges against him. Never gave him a trial. They killed him.

Univ of Florida throws so much money at its tenure track faculty to try and convince us to come here. It invests incredible amounts of money to artificially inflate its ranking. But when it comes to paying grad students it can’t even cover their basic cost of living. Atrocious twitter.com/IBJIYONGI/stat…

The solution to CP3 is simple: End the program and de-securitize social services. should not be in the business of providing public health or funding social programs. Its involvement undermines them. We offer alternatives in an earlier report. 14/

The corruption is not even subtle. DeSantis is basically just a small time grifter.

The Florida House of Representatives is hearing a really ominous bill right now in which the Republican Legislature would take control of Gainesville's city-owned electric company away from Gainesville's Democratic City Commission and give it to Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.

DeSantis and his goons want to dismantle public educational institutions that don’t align with their hyper-neoliberal vision of what education should be. “Wokeness” is how they make it palatable to their racist constituencies. The agenda goes far beyond that.

And certainly without some sort of account of when the “use of economic warfare” is appropriate (e.g. something like the concept of self-defense though there are plenty of issues with that concept’s ambiguity as well)

The reg of armed conflict (concepts like necessity, proportionality, distinction) is notoriously subject to abuse and manipulation. Importing those concepts into the world of economic warfare seems like a BAD idea giving legal cover w/out much pay off. That is all. See ya around
