Are video textures loading the whole video into memory, or just the given frame? If I were to make a big grid of elements in a single video, I assume that'd be way more efficient than all the elements being their own individual videos?

I've been having a ton of fun using video textures in blender (the results using pre-keyed video and stock elements are ridiculously rewarding), but I wondered if folks had any tips for optimizing for memory/responsiveness?

This is a really fun breakdown for one of my favorite sequences from Colin's "Skywatch" short- it's so cool when so much effort comes together to make a shot that works so beautifully.

OH WAIT A SECOND- this also works great for generating a mist pass! Normally I have a really hard time comping in greenscreen elements into a cg scene with mist, cause the black levels are always changing. I'll have to see how well it works.

Huh! So this probably isn't the best way to do it, but I'm pretty happy with how quickly it's giving results putting a green screened character in 3d space. I'll be comping the high res footage of her in later, but this could be useful for secondary stuff (shadows/reflections)?

This is such a crazy fun way to work. We had similar stuff on Tears of Steel in 2012, but being able to match lighting in realtime is amazing. That said, this is part of a 3 minute shot, and I'm not sure yet if I'm going to final-render in eevee or spend 3 weeks with cycles

Also apparently titled wrong because life is chaos and my Twitter experience doubly so.

Also APPARENTLY the first 15 seconds are just straight up gone- ack! If you feel like you're missing out, the full thing is (hopefully) here:

Animating handheld cameras and camera shake in Blender! Lazy Tutorials for lazy people! I've used this technique so many times. No matter how steady the camera is supposed to be, a tiny bit of randomness can add so much.

Seeing the physics kick in at 15 seconds. Mmmm!

This is so rad/clever. Being able to develop your own tools is one of the most exciting parts of CG to me- also, I had no idea animation nodes could be this powerful.

Ah! Brendan made a breakdown of the audio work he did for the Crab Battle short- really interesting to hear the mix of organic and synthesized sounds :D I've gotten to work with Impossible Acoustic on nearly every project I've done for the past 10 years- they're the best.

A slow way to film a convo: film half of it on a greenscreen, build a practical set for the other half, shoot that other half, edit the two parts together as best you can, do the VFX, screenshare to a phone hidden in a prop in the set, film it, and edit it back into the scene Wo!
