Really unlikely that they change this in the YouTube API. It's just from the frontend that they will format subscriber counts.

Basically cutting out social blade's existence, they most likely see it as a harm towards "youtube" as a brand. Sucks for creators because your buying power for sponsorship is going to drastically change, or become more complicated.
