One of the repeated themes in coverage of Rupert Murdoch is that there’s always somebody in the family who has a restraining influence on him. It used to be his mum (Murdoch’s Australian papers being historically his least fervid). Then it was Elisabeth. Now it’s James.

But all of that is bollocks. If you want to know who has Rupert’s ear, look at people in the organisation who have roles that combine editorial with business. Look at the ‘managing editors’. These are the people who are steering the ship.

Lol, I’ve just remembered when he tried to buy Manchester United. Given the extent to which he’s bankrolled them since 1992, it was rude of them not to roll over.
