He was never as single-minded on any of his other crusades as he has been on trans rights (and he did basically take eighteen months off twitter ‘in protest) but there were always occasional ugly comments, which gradually revealed a worldview.

I’d be interested to see to what degree the advent of the Internet enabled his aggression. Long ago, I remember reading that his experiences of being bullied as a kid informed some of his comedy work so you’d have thought he’d have some empathy with the oppressed 1/n

Then all of a sudden here he was presented with a medium that allowed him to say whatever he wanted without having to deal with the consequences in any personal capacity. He was a bully but a keyboard warrior, not that that excuses him 2/n

I remember him being weirdly aggressive about the piracy / DRM topic that was a reasonably big deal around 2011 ish. Incapable of accepting that others might have valid views.

As the sorta person glinner now loathes who nevertheless felt Seen by the underdog tales of IT Crowd and Black Books: that mythology is definitely helpful to go forward without re-evaluating influential tv. That it is profoundly untrue feels Different.
