I have been asked an interesting question. Why does London’s Moorgate tube station have a mix of “traditional” bar-and-Circle roundels... and weird diamonds? Well... (1/6)

Another reason to visit museum Shildon: recently-acquired Emett's "A Quiet Afternoon in the Cloud Cuckoo Valley" kinetic sculpture of 1984 is now running its 15 minute sequence 3x daily. Then off on a tour of sites, ending at in 2025.

Sped past the defunct 1960s modern power signal box at Hither Green mainlines and Freight Depot on @NetworkRailSEnand my first thought was oh that’d make me a lovely sitting room. And kitchen. And maybe bedroom if I had earplugs. Sod it when can I move in

Just found this bastardisation of the BR Corporate Identity on a Class 47 as done by Stratford Depot to celebrate the 1981 wedding of Charles & Diana and I can hear screaming from here

Tri-ang's Arkitex model series must have been the genesis of many an architectural career for budding Erno Goldfingers wanting to construct their own modernist masterpieces. BTW if you enjoy these then DO head to at Brighton where they have many of these on display

Tri-ang also produced its 00-scale Minic Motorway system - a bit like a less exciting Scalextric - so bored kids of the 1960s could relive the adrenaline of being stuck behind dawdling caravans and lorries shedding loads on the M62

Tri-ang, later part of Hornby, created some BONKERS toys. One such was their Minic Narrowgauge Railway system: an attempt at an off-the-shelf ride-on garden train set. They were 10.25" gauge, originally track-powered (yikes!) a few used ones for sale today

Went to Chislehurst Caves. Lots of tunnels to yomp around with a hand-held Paraffin-fuelled hurricane lamp. 15 mins train from London Bridge. V good.

I know I should probably enjoy railway station architecture most when it’s being used by people – as that what it’s for – but London Bridge is rather splendid and quiet between trains at weekends

I made my friend Clare cross the road to come and look at this. Oh I do like a good Silver Shadow or Silver Cloud. Might even stretch to a Corniche.

21st Century Rolls-Royce cars are grotesque overblown self-unaware parodies but THIS, this 1976 gold Silver Shadow we spotted in Greenwich today is ACE.
