(1/Multiple) Hi folks, I just want to share with you a little trick I discovered when creating Windows XP Virtual Machines. I bought some Windows XP licenses, but it turns out that they are upgrades to the professional version.
(4/Multiple) [I was working in VirtualBox here] I then set the new VM's hard drive to the extracted Virtual Hard Disk and added an optical drive linked to my CD with the Windows XP Professional Upgrade version. Upon booting the VM ran the disk with the upgrade.

(5/Multiple) The upgrade could then see that there was a prior operating system installed and get to work. Otherwise, nothing would happen. Of course, the upgrade version had a legitimate product key. Hope this helps since freestanding Windows XP licenses are hard to come by.
